We all start out with big dreams.

But as we step into adulthood, the path often gets tougher. Some lose momentum, while others keep pushing forward. Luck seems to favour a few and bypass others, but it’s rarely just a matter of fate. More often than not, we shape our struggles, even though we tend to blame others or unseen forces for our setbacks.

Here are some reasons why you are the only one obstructing your way.

1.
You Have No Direction

Not knowing how your life will look at a certain point is like flying a plane blind. Eventually, you will crash-land somewhere. But the power to change this is in your hands. Things only happen after you imagine them. Anything you haven’t strongly desired will remain unattainable. However, imagining big stuff without knowing the steps to attain them is daydreaming. Stop being erratic and aimless, and start showing leadership to yourself. Set your vision and break it down into small, manageable goals. Every time you achieve one, you will be one step closer to the land of your dreams.

2.
You Are Lazy

You can dream and plan all you want, but only taking action will make those dreams a reality. Achieving big things requires considerable energy and motivation. When you lack personal firepower, only miracles can save you. Get rid of your endless inertia and comfort. Break up with procrastination, your lifelong companion to the land of missed opportunities. Put your words into action and ignite your imagination, and things will start to happen. Invest your time and energies for your ideas to bear fruit. If not, they will end up in the cemetery of pipedreams, leaving you forever grieving in deep regret.

3.
Fear Rules You

You may be the one who speaks the loudest and puts on a brave face in public, but deep down, you know you are a sheep, not a lion. You fear trying new things or making changes. You are scared of making tough decisions that could improve your life. You make excuses to avoid taking responsibility for staying in your comfort zone, even if it's not serving you well. You avoid addressing your emotional baggage and insecurities because it’s difficult and painful. You fear taking risks and, in essence, avoid potential rewards. Rise against your worries and get ready to face hardships. Bruising is the way of the champion.

4.
You Have a Loser’s Mindset

Your mind often convinces you that you're not capable of changing your circumstances. You feel powerless, give up, and regress when faced with challenges. You lack the endurance and strength to overcome obstacles. But who said good things come easily? Like a seed that needs time and effort to sprout, life and your aspirations require patience and perseverance. Embrace the uncertainties and fatigue of your journey, and don't give up on your dreams. If you abandon your efforts and let them falter, the road ahead will become much more gruelling. And you'll still have to walk it painfully.

5.
You Are in Bad Company

You mirror the mindsets and behaviours of those you spend the most time with. If they lack ambition or direction, you'll likely follow suit. The company you keep inevitably shapes you. Toxic friends bring negativity and drama, while pessimists will undermine your ideas, dismiss your efforts, and plant seeds of self-doubt. Some may even keep you stuck in harmful, self-destructive behaviours under the guise of friendship. To pursue your dreams, your social circle should reflect your aspirations. If your goals evolve, your support system must evolve with them otherwise, those around you will hold you back, binding you with invisible shackles.

Wake up, take action and free yourself from yourself today.
